EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Phone makers have until February 2027 to make every battery replaceable
From February 18, 2027, an EU battery law says portable batteries in devices sold in Europe must be removable and replaceable by the owner. For phones, that means the end of the battery you can only reach with a heat gun and a repair shop.
Phone makers have a little more than a year left to redesign their batteries. Spare batteries must also stay on sale for 5 years or more once a phone model is gone.
